I live too close to the bone

E-mail Print PDF

Windsong sings sharp against my face

Nightdance deepens on the edge of twisting resist

Birds take flight o’re the water’s shine
An eagle’s dive – pounding power of flight

I step out from burrow of wood and plaster pure
Breathe deep the toss
The trees, they blow and twist and call me out
Reveal the shadow life thrown against four walls

My face tilts up toward heaven’s stars
Twinkle, twinkle, a call to den of big city lights
Teasing , dancing, sparkle shine ask’s
What will you do?

Sinew strains – run wild-naked beneath silver light
Freedom’s calls is ever sweet and raw
A step and then another into the open wide
Stop and pause, all breath and fear inside

No fear
No fear
No fear
No fear

Heaven’s name resounds about
Pulsing heart to muscle’s flight
And bone
I live too close the bone

Can You Imagine

Can you imagine how He made it

created from nothingness

the promises and possibilities of heaven

brought into being by a few spoken words

Can you see His hand as He threw out the stars

like seeds on wind

floating to their place with names of their own

the sun and the moon taking turns like parents

leading and guiding and lighting our way

Sassy sandals – painted toe feat

Coming Alive

E-mail Print PDF
You made a woman - spoke out her name

She dwelled in a place with the kings of men

A spirit whose eyes reflected so much peace

She never knew anything but being complete

She lived where there is no law to deny

The rights and wrongs of her need to fly

She lived in a place called love

She was born a girl crying and stark

It didn't take long for them to leave their mark

Desert Rose

Alone inside

Opening suitcases in strange places

Wanting something more solid than these borrowed bureaus

This borrowed Bible, even.

Hoping the world will change with kept promises

Intertwined legs beneath the covers

Alone and together

Waiting by the phone, in a chair, on a stair
