I have just discovered that my latest heroine, Lady Kendra Townsend, loves hats! It’s funny (and so much fun!) how a character continues to develop even during the editing process. When she first meets Captain Colburn (the hero) she is wearing a monsterous purple number with lots of feathers that droop into her eyes. Here are some photos I found of some fabulous hats!
I would love to wear this one, wouldn’t you?
So Sweet!
Love this dress too!
Straw hats were all the rage in late 1700′s – early 1800′s
The “Picture Hat” made famous by Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire.
I think this is my favorite!
Okay, what about you? Do you like hats? Do you wear them? Do you wish we still wore hats like this?

I love the hats and wish we still wore them. I have my grandmother’s hats from the 30s-40s, of course they are more caps then hats. I like the hats that were worn in the movie Titanic too. I think ladies stand up tall when they have those hats on, of course it could be because they are so heavy they have to stand straight to balance them on their heads. I wonder if a hat ever tipped a lady over or how many things they knocked over when passing by?
Just stopping by to say “Hi!” Jamie!! Hats…no way, no how, no sir…tooo hot!! It’s 110 in the shade today and I can’t IMAGINE having to wear all that truck plus a hat….makes me sweat just thinking about it!!
Hats…I’m a little iffy on those. I don’t think I’d ever wear anything as large as those you included the pictures for, because although they are fantastic they are a wee bit too much.
Instead, I tend to favor ball caps. Or, in a more fashionable moment, one of these: http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product.aspx?pf_id=9H6A&adv=9518&cm_mmc=affiliates-_-affliliatewindow_datafeed-_-7816
Hats don’t fit me very well, including my HS band hat! Once in a while, I’ll wear one; my great-grandfather’s gray hat.
The last one is definitely my fave also…but they all look great! Would love to try them at least once:)
I adore hats! The only reason I don’t wear them is that they make me too warm. But when I got married in 1982 I wore a hat instead of a veil. I’ve always been a hat girl!
The url on my above comment is incorrect (for my name.) Here is is fixed!
Love the hats. Ladies were beautiful then, weren’t they?
I have to agree that it would be hot to wear hats (and the outfits) of these days. Plus, I don’t look that good in hats – lol! The women were probably tiny back then which would help.
Karla, I’d love to see a pic of your wedding!
