Which Dorian do You Like Best?
I am busy today filling out my Marketing Information Form for my publisher. One of the questions asks for a physical description of my characters. I’ve been looking for photos to represent what I picture them to look like. My hero, Dorian Colburn, is a rugged American sea captain who fights pirates upon occasion. Which photo do you like best for him?
This is pretty perfect but Dorian has blue eyes.
Remember the story Dorian Gray? Creepy!
But this guy looks a lot like my mental image.
What a cute couple! Julianne Hough is a perfect look for Kendra (more on her below) and her then beau, country singer Chuck Wicks, is a good candidate for Dorian. Hey . . . Chuck probably lives in Nashville! I wonder if we could get him to model for the cover!?! LOL! And would he be willing to wear some hair extensions?
Here’s what Kendra (my heroine) thinks of Dorian the first time she sees him:
“Kendra’s glimpse of the man had only lasted a few seconds but his image burned in her mind. She’d never met an American before and he looked as wild as she’d heard them to be, handsome in a rugged way that she was unaccustomed to. His face was tan, so different from the milky white complexions she was used to seeing. He had rather long, dark curling hair that had been brushed back from chiseled features and waved in the breeze. His eyes were a cerulean blue with silver flicks in them and filled with piercing intensity and . . . disdain. Thick black brows arched almost wickedly over his eyes. His chin was square with a small cleft and she sensed he may have a dimple in his left check when he smiled. Small lines stood on either side of his well-molded mouth. His lips were slightly wide with even white teeth peering behind them. Kendra peeked up through her lashes and saw broad shoulders and a wide chest. He looked like a pirate she’d once read about. Goodness Lord, I didn’t know you made such men for real!”
Okay, here are some photos of what I picture the lovely Lady Kendra Townsend to look like: (Her most distinctive feature is bluish-violet eyes) Dorian takes one look at her and thinks, “She is going to be a whole new kind of trouble. He looks down at her, peering from beneath a monsterous purple hat the color of her eyes, and scowls.”
Jaime King has gorgeous eyes!
Julianne Hough is soooo pretty!
Well, back to work. This is so much fun!!!!

Born in the small, historical town of Vincennes, Indiana, Jamie is the oldest of five children. When she was six, her parents accepted Christ as their Savior, which changed everything. Excited about Jesus, her dad decided to take a giant leap of faith and start a church. Some of her favorite memories are the road trips she used to take with her dad, driving to home Bible studies across southern Indiana where Jim would preach. After a night of teaching and ministry, they would drive home and talk of things beyond earth’s bounds - creation and the fall, God and Jesus and the rapture, the earthly walk compared to the spiritual walk, and how we are born for more than what we can see or touch. The highlight of those nights was stopping at a truck stop where her dad would spend a little of the offering basket on two slices of pie and a couple of Cokes. Nothing ever felt so special as a middle of the night slice of pie with her dad. As Jamie grew closer to God and developed her own relationship with Him, she discovered a heart welling with songs and poetry.

Wow, this is fun.
I adore Adrai Claude’s looks, but if you like the Dorian Gray guy, that is who you should use. (Give him those baby blues…) I think Jaime King looks more “spicy” or trouble and she’s not a perfect-looking person–she has those wide set eyes and some ginger-peachy in her look.
Love the descriptions. Awesome.

Ok, so how can a guy who looks like that have a name like Chuck?! You know what it means down under, don’t you?!?!
Andrei looks a wee bit overcooked IMHO so I’d go with Chuck + extensions
Jaimie’s eyes are perfect!

The reader can certainly form a vivid image from your descriptions – fantastic!
Adrai Claude looks a bit too much (in my humble opinion). If you could take the Dorian Gray picture and “roughen” him up a bit, he would be what I envision from your description. As he is in the picture shown, he looks too soft to be your hero.
As for the Lady Kendra, the last picture of Julianne Hough is perfect. Jaime King does indeed have gorgeous eyes but I like the innocence I see in Julianne’s picture. I LOVE Lady Kendra’s comment about God really making such men!
Thanks for giving us the chance to participate! Best wishes!

I’m not sure that I really like any of these guys for Dorian. The first two seem a little too pretty to me to be Dorian, and the last one just doesn’t have the look. But, maybe if you edited an image of Oded Fehr to have blue eyes, then you’d have your Dorian.

Well, the pirate lovers here on the sales team of B&H love the guy without a shirt. Made our day!

I’m checking out Oded Fehr now, Marie! Thanks for the suggestion!
LOL! Deborah! I’m kind of partial to that guy too! (Where’s a fan around here when you need one?).
