Writing Music

I love to write to music. I don’t know exactly how it works because you would think the lyrics would get in the way of my words, but they don’t. Music gets me in the mood I need to be in for a particular scene and it always inspires me. Sometimes I have to stop typing so I can  jump up and dance for awhile

I thought I would share some of my recent finds. I need some more Christian titles though. Anybody have any suggestions for me? Here’s some links to my current favs (I buy all my music through itunes but you can get a better feel for the whole song on YouTube):

SafetySuit – Anywhere But Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzdPeMQSPqM
Lifehouse – It Is What It Is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QurayJXXee8
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB7T3lJ3dZ4&feature=fvst
Clannad – I Will Find You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv6VW4tMZbE (This is an all time favorite! I wrote Snow Angel and Wind Dancer to this one a lot).
Amanda Seyfried – Little House
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im_ZVNX1QZM (From the movie Dear John).
Desperation Band – Who You Are
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBOUNEbIoUY
Phil Wickham – Divine Romance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jABIjfkRVxI
Peter Bradley Adams – The Longer I Run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha4o20i9yfg (Basically anything by Peter Bradley Adams is great writing music).

I would love to hear your favorite songs!

Songs by Kutlass are really great to write to:
Promise of a Lifetime, Changing World, What Faith Can Do, and I’m Still Yours

I’ve never heard of any of these songs before, but I’m really liking that Clannad one. Of course, now I have to watch the Last of the Mohicans, and finish reading the books.

I don’t tend to listen to music with lyrics when I’m writing, but I like to listen to a song called “On Wings of Prayer” by Alicia Key Woods. She was a lady from my church who put out this album, and she’s really good. You can listen to a sample of it here:http://aliciakeywoods.com/music.html

I also like Stephen Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin, Natalie Grant (“Held” and “Perfect People” have simply amazing lyrics!); and otherwise I like Celtic Thunder.

Mostly though, I listen to purely instrumental music, mostly piano. George Winston, Rada Neal, Laurie Z, and recently Karen Marie Garrett (listen to “It’s About the Rose in the Vase On the Table,” long title, great song). There’s also a few songs in the epynonymous album by David Garrett, a violinist, that I like, along with soundtracks such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” I also have music that I get from Majesty Music and West Coast Baptist Bible College.

Jaime, I forgot about Kutlass! I used to listen to them all of the time. I’ll check those out, thanks!
Mae, I do love Chris Tomlin! I’ll check out your instrumentals too. I need more of those. Thanks for the suggestions!
